In a nutshell, what do you do?

I combine engineering and product development with sales and marketing.  I’ve got a strong technical background – essential from the client’s perspective.

 

What made you decide to do it at Vortok?

I’ve been in the rail industry for over 30 years and have always had an interest in Vortok.  I liked their passion for embedding engineering in clever products, their ability to manufacture in high volumes and their international perspective.

 

What excites you most about your work?

Finding out what is troubling the client and looking at what we can do to improve their lot.

 

Tell me about your biggest achievements before you joined Vortok?

When working at British Rail Research I developed a highly successful range of products for monitoring the state of the railway.

Building the credibility and presence of British Rail Research (by then known as Delta) in the US market.

 

What are the two most interesting projects you’ve worked on since you joined Vortok?

Making a study of the US market and mapping out the best way for us to enter it.

Working with the inventor of a sensor and developing it for a wide range of purposes – it has now become our new Measure & Detect technology.

 

If you could solve one problem in the railway industry, what would it be?

Make it run more economically so that it is more available and attractive to customers.

 

How do you relax?

Travelling, photography, restoring old motorcycles and gardening.
