Pandrol Vortok are excited to welcome Luke Pollard Labour MP for Plymouth, Suton and Devonport to our Plymouth site on Wednesday 1st August as part of the RIA Rail Fellowship Programme. As well as being a constituancy focussed MP, Mr Pollard is also a Railway Industry Association Fellow with a keen interest in the benefits that the railways bring to the region and to the UK as a whole.

The principle objective of the RIA Rail Fellowship Programme is:

"To increase awareness and knowledge amongst politicians and influencers of the postitive benefits the rail supply chain provides to UK plc."

Mr Pollard will be spending the day at Vortok to meet our staff and learn about how our products and innovations benefit the railway industry. Mr Pollard will also be promoting the work of the RIA and showcasing the invaluable work that the rail industry does to contribute to the UK economy and create jobs.

Vortok International has been awarded a large contract by Metro-North Railroad in New York for the installation of train fault detection systems.There will be three systems at sites in New York State (Ossining), Connecticut (Green Farms) and Long Island NY (Belmont Park).

The work shall include the design and furnishing of a new pre-wired house which contains a four track hotbox detector (HBD), four track wheel impact load detector (WILD) and four track automatic equipment identification (AEI) tag reader system. All systems will report back to the operation control center (OCC). These systems will need to continuously monitor and measure the wheel/rail loads produced as a result of irregularities from the rolling stock wheels and monitor passing trains for overheating bearings.

Vortok will be prime contractor and the project is due to run for 507 days. A key element of the technical proposal was use of the unique Vortok MultiSensors compared to traditional strain gauges.
